DIY Easter Eggshells

We love this Easter DIY as it’s a quick and easy activity to do with your kids in the holidays AND it doubles up as a cool decoration to pretty up your windowsill.

This activity is wonderful for getting you and your little ones into the Easter spirit. It can be completed in the warmth of a cosy kitchen on a rainy afternoon, or a sumptuous sunny garden – and it’s even great for those who are not the most green fingered!

After a short trip down to the local florist (and a compulsory supermarket stop off to get some Mini Eggs) we were all ready to try this out!

What you need:

-       A selection of small plants or succulents

-       Half a dozen eggs

-       A butter knife – or any blunt knife

-       A small spoon

-       Compost

-       Water

-       Mini Eggs for compulsory snacking!!

What to do:

1. Firstly, open up the eggs using the back of the knife - we advise that a careful parent does this job! Create a small crack on the top of the egg, and then peal away the shell using your fingers. Make a hole big enough to allow you to empty the contents of the egg out.

2. Pour out the contents of the egg and clean them out. Ensure that they are fully dried before commencing on the next step, to avoid any soil sticking to the edges.

3. Fill the shells with the compost using a spoon. We advise filling them about three quarters of the way up.

4. Remove the succulents from their pots, and carefully place them in the egg shells. If the succulent looks a little unstable, add a bit more soil to the egg shell.

5. Finally, give them a quick water and place them somewhere with plenty of sunlight!

Do keep an eye on them, and water when the soil is dry to the touch.
